Jamia Masjid Al-Madinah

Overview. Jamia Masjid Al-Madina was opened in 1976 and the time was the second masjid in Middlesbrough. Since its opening it has not only been used as a masjid but also a community hub. It can cater for weddings, funerals, charity events and corporate events. It has four halls and can hold up to 2,000 people at any given time. ? History. The masjid, originally known as Saint Michael's Church, was purchased in 1975 for £10,000. A further £3,500 was spent on refurbishment. The ground floor was set aside for social gatherings, funerals, weddings and educational classes. Men from the community would come each night to help with conversion. Help was given by Middlesbrough Council to set up the masjid. Prior to Jamia Masjid Al-Madina, there was the Muslim Mosque situated at 162 Grange Road, this closed in 1976. ?
