The Salaam Community Association & Masjid is a charitable organization with several key aims and objectives. These include fostering friendship and unity both within and outside the community, promoting understanding and respect for the law, various cultures, and faiths, and carrying out social, educational, training, welfare, and economic activities for the community's benefit. The association also aims to promote equal opportunities for all communities and encourage law-abiding individuals to integrate into British society and respect the country's laws. The charity's vision is to bring peace and harmony to communities where family and social cohesion is most needed through the teachings of Islam. Over time, this vision has grown stronger. The association has worked tirelessly to ensure that new Muslims can practice Islam comfortably without losing their cultural identity, and that Islam is practiced according to the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) without any cultural influences. The association also aims to promote any charitable purpose in Manchester that is accepted by the Charity Commission. It provides facilities, amenities, and resources targeting the needs of women, youths, children, the elderly, and disabled. It engages in interfaith activities and encourages community cohesion, mutual understanding, tolerance, and respect within the community at large. The association also encourages or contributes to the area's economic development to assist and promote social and community enterprise, and it provides and improves training for youths and the larger community. Over the past 28 years, the association's efforts to assist the community have greatly expanded. In 2015, the trustees of the Salaam Community Association and Masjid purchased a 2-story building formerly known as Mazda House, which it was renting. The building is ideally located in the heart of inner-city Moss Side. The aim was to develop the building from its current state into a community-based facility and service to serve the local community and educate the future generation of young Muslims and the larger community. The Salaam Community Association and Masjid faces a sizable task ahead. Moss Side is a very deprived area in terms of education and employment, which impacts health, both mental and physical. The masjid has helped many young men, in particular, to desist from a life of crime, drugs, and degradation. The association intends to add a second floor in the near future to accommodate the growing number of people using the facilities and services.
